Clinton Road

The most haunted road in the U.S.

It’s a long, desolate stretch that makes the ‘ imagination go nuts.” –

In West Milford, New Jersey the famous and haunted highway, Clinton Road, continues to make people tremble at the very thought of driving through there. Legends of hauntings, the occult, and paranormal activity surround the area.

Many dark stories are known to haunt this two-lane highway dating back decades. Including suicides, satanic rituals, mafia hits, phantom trucks, and so on.

The ten-mile windy road begins at what at the locals refer to as, “The Ghost House.” An abandoned house that’s been vacant for years; yet when driving by a light from inside the house comes on as if someone is taking notice of the passers-by.

One story in particular about a girl who died in 1988 from a car crash on Clinton Road. According to locals, if you mention anything about her she appears by following behind you in her blue Camaro. The same one she was driving the night she died.

Good luck calling for help because there’s barely any kind of service.

Along the highway, there’s ruins of alters and other shrines that were used in Satanic rituals and witchcraft that still stand, barely.

The mafias from New York and New Jersey were rumored to dispose the bodies of hit contracts dating back to the seventies and eighties.

Cannibals were thought to hide out in the woods from the road and kidnap people who were broken down along the highway and never seen again. They would bait the drivers by putting old furniture in the road to make them lose control and skid off the road and crash.

Various cults would perform animal sacrifices, as well as, people.

Still standing and fenced in, a Druidic temple saying back to 1826 that people fear was used in demonic ceremonies. But, it’s actually an iron smelter. Trespassers are more likely to have a falling accident than anything else.

Phantom trucks known to run up and down the highway to scare drivers into losing control of their vehicles and crashing off road.

Back in the 1930’s, a young boy who was having a picnic with his parents was playing and dropped a penny over the edge of a bridge. He climbed onto the ledge to see where it went and fell off and died. As legend has it, if you throw a penny over the edge and wait, he’ll throw it back to you. If you can find the right bridge.

If you leave a coin in the middle of the road at midnight, the Ghost Boy of Dead Man’s Curve will return it to you.

The other version is if you attempt to look over the edge the boy will push you over in an attempt to save your life.

Keep an eye out on the long stretch of Dead Man’s Curve for the bridge. There’s more than one.

The ghosts of two park rangers still haunt the road at night looking to “help” people in need. According to locals, they are the ghosts of the two rangers who died back in 1939. They say they appear to have out-of-date uniforms. Demon’s Alley-closed off side road before you get to Clinton Road.
